<title>April 1 ... </title>
<description>
Board of Trustee Ed Davila was appointed to the Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC) to fill the open position left vacant by the death of Trustee Rita Creighton. Trustee Elizabeth Chen and Trustee Ed Davila will co-chair the committee. Both will work on the procedures that need to be followed to ensure that our process remains on track.
Last week each member of the committee reported their 6 candidates to the consultant so that the process could move as scheduled. This was not done in lieu of a meeting but to allow the consultant to continue his work in an expeditious time frame. The committee will meet on April 7th, 2008 for consensus as to the candidates that will be given to the Board of Trustees. On April 10th the Board of Trustees will meet and the finalists will be announced as soon as all candidates have been contacted. We are still moving towards interviews beginning the week of April 21st.

<title>March 17 ... </title>
<description>
It is with great sadness that we announce that Highline Community College Trustee, Rita Creighton, passed away last weekend. Rita was appointed to the College's Board of Trustees March 9, 2005 and was serving as the Chair of our Presidential Search Committee.
This has been a tremendous shock to the Board and the campus, though we remain committed to our search process. Please know that this will not impact our previously stated deadlines.

<title> September 14, 2007  ...  Message from the Board of Trustees</title>
<description>From ROSENDAHL, PATTI -- Sent Friday, September 14, 2007 -- To FACULTY LIST - STAFF LIST -- Subject - Message from the Board of Trustees --
In the past several months we have taken the time to listen to many groups of concerned individuals regarding the preferred characteristics and qualifications of the next President of Highline Community College. We have been very impressed with the amount of feedback that we have received both in the forums that were held, and by conversations had with staff, faculty, community members, state board officials, and elected officials. The most important theme that we heard in all conversations was that Highline deserves the best possible President that we can have and that the process of selection must include a national search to ensure that the best possible candidates are brought forward for the campus and community to hear and see. The process of an appointment without a search would invalidate the integrity and value of the selection process and provide questions and doubts of whoever is appointed.
We are thankful for the leadership that Dr. Bermingham has provided as Interim President and sincerely hope that he chooses to formally apply to be a candidate for this position. We are also thankful to the campus for your insight and support of this process. We look forward to working with you and the community in this process of selection.
Karen Vander Ark, Chair - Rita Creighton - Mike Regeimbal - Elizabeth Chen - Ed Davila

<title>August 09, 2007 ... Message to Faculty and Staff, HCC, from the Board of Trustees</title>
<description>From ROSENDAHL, PATTI -- Sent Thursday, August 09, 2007 -- Subject Message to Faculty and Staff, HCC, from the Board of Trustees --
Hello, Hope you are having a Happy and Healthy summer. We would like to keep you informed of the informational gathering process regarding the Presidential selection here at Highline. As part of our process we held four forums on campus and two off campus that were intended to gather input and advice from campus and community constituents. The off campus groups that we heard from consisted of elected officials, community members, Highline Foundation members and school district officials who are very caring and interested in the future of Highline. We were pleased to hear feedback from all groups on campus and off and it reinforced the idea that we indeed do have a very special community asset in Highline Community College that both campus members -- staff and students -- and the outside community value very much.
As part of the ongoing process, the Board of Directors voted at its July 12, 2007 meeting to send out an RFP for search consultants. We expect to receive this information back to us by the end of August and will have a list of consultants and services that they offer to conduct a search. This information is an important part of the process and will enable us to be aware of a component that is a valuable piece of information in any search-selection process. There is a designated point of contact for the consultants on the campus and we expect the receipt of this information by August 23, 2007. Please be aware that we do not have a scheduled Board meeting in August and our next regularly scheduled Board of Trustees Meeting is September 13, 2007. We do not intend to take any action in the month of August and will simply be reviewing materials forwarded to us.
The legal responsibilities of Members of the Board of Trustees as outlined in RCW 28B.50.140 are that we are entrusted with the responsibility of hiring a president. We view our responsibility as Trustees appointed by the Governor to ensure that the information that we use in this process is as complete as possible. We do intend to involve as many of the various community and campus groups in as open of a process as possible. We gratefully acknowledge the valuable information that you have supplied to us and we will keep you informed of any and all actions that we undertake in the selection of the next President of Highline Community College. -- Karen Vander Ark, Chair -- Board of Trustees -- Patti Rosendahl -- Executive Assistant to the President -- Highline Community College -- PO Box 98000
Des Moines, WA  98198-9800 --
